Introduction:

The principle of segregation states that “genes encoding different characteristics separate independently from one another during gamete formation because homologous pairs of chromosomes in meiosis separate independently”. The law of independent assortment states that “genes found close together on the same chromosome or genes with different traits assort independently from one another”.
