Plants require nutrients to survive and grow, like any other living being. There are some plants that have the capability of extracting all the minerals and other components required for their development, from the soil. Most plants depend upon mycorrhiza to take some of these nutrients.

Mycorrhiza is a symbiotic association between the roots of higher plants and fungi. Plants produce organic molecules, such as sugars, which are useful for fungi.
