The flowering plants can reproduce by pollination that results in the production of seeds. The pollination starts the series that ultimately leads to fertilization. The fertilization is the process of fusion of male and female gametes that are haploid nuclei of egg and sperm inside ovary of a flower. This process results in the formation of a diploid sporophyte.

Explanation

The self-incompatibility is a process by which a plant prevents self-fertilization by recognition and rejection. Thus, when a compatible pollen grain lands on a stigma, it forms a pollen tube by absorbing moisture through stigma and style until it reaches ovule. The synergids help the pollen tube toward the micropyle.
