MACHINE DESIGN 1 (SUBJECT)
Cutting tools such as mills and drills are connected to machiningequipment by means of tool holders. The cutting tool must be firmlyclamped by the tool holder to achieve precise machining, and shrink-fit toolholders take advantage of thermal expansion properties to achieve thisstrong, concentric clamping force. To insert a cutting tool, the shrink-fitholder is rapidly heated while the cutting tool remains at room temperature. When the holder has expanded sufficiently, the cutting tool drops into theholder. The holder is then cooled, clamping the cutting tool with a very largeforce exerted directly on the tool shank. At 20°C, the cutting tool shank has an outside diameter of 18.0000.005 mm and the tool holder has an inside diameter of 17.950 0.005mm. If the tool shank is held at 20°C, what is the minimum temperature towhich the tool holder must be heated in order to insert the cutting toolshank? Assume that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the tool…

- A siilicon boule has been processed through grinding to provide a cylinder whose diameter = 281 mm and whose length = 899 mm. Next, it will be sliced into wafers 0.8 mm thick using a cut-off saw with a kerf = 0.5 mm. The wafer thus produced will be used to fabricate as many IC chips as possible for the personal computer market. Each IC has a market value to the company of $108. Each chip is square with 17 mm on a side. The processable area of each wafer is defined by a diameter = 265 mm. Estimate the value of all of the IC chips that could be produced (in $), asssuming an overall yield of 84% good product.arrow_forwardThank you, Could you help me with Problem 60 as well?arrow_forwardA turning machining experiment was performed at the UCSI University's Mechanical Engineering workshop using a lathe machine with palm oil as lubricant. It was observed that during the entire machining, the technician set cutting tool perpendicular to the direction of tool motion. A further investigation revealed that the tool rake angle was 25° while the dynamometer results' analysis showed that the frictional force and the normal force to the friction was 5 kN and 25 kN respectively. Analyze how the chip thickness will be affected if the machining is performed without any lubricant and the frictional force is increased by 100 %. Assume that, all other parameters were kept constant during the entire operation for both machining with lubricant and the dry machining process.arrow_forward
