Viral diarrhea is one of the primary cause of death in children below five years in developing countries.

Introduction: Acute viral gastroenteritis is the inflammation of the stomach and the intestines caused by the six major classes of viruses including adenovirus, rotaviruses, astroviruses, bocaparvoviruses, caliciviruses, and parechoviruses. In the US alone acute diarrhea in children due to gastroenteritis accounts for 30 deaths per year.
