Homeostasis is the process that occurs in the body to maintain a constant stable internal condition even when the external environment is changing continuously. The homeostasis in the body is being constantly regulated by various positive and negative feedback mechanisms. Generally, negative feedback mechanisms control homeostatic mechanisms. In these systems, the net effect of the response is either reduced or shut off.

Explanation

The automatic detection of any deviation of the system activity from its normal state and the counteraction on the variables of the system activity to return back to its normal state occurs in a homeostatic system. The negative feedback loop involves three physical components, namely, the sensor, integrator and effectors.

The negative feedback control loop is mainly evident in maintaining the homeostasis of the body. Stimulus is the deviation in the environment that triggers a response, which compensates for the change. The sensor, which comprises of tissue or organs detect the change in the factors that subject to homeostatic control like temperature or pH.

The received information is then transported to the integrator, which is a control center. In most of the homeostatic mechanisms, the brain plays the role of the control system. When the information reaches the brain via receptors, it first compares the changes to the optimum conditions and sends respective information according to the changes via nerves to the effectors...
