Discuss Concepts Search for Internet resources using the phrase “pediatric neurotransmitter disease” and, for one such disease, explain how the symptoms relate to neurotransmitter function.

Summary Introduction

To review:

Search the internet for the term “pediatric neurotransmitter disease.” Review one of such diseases and explain the relation of its systems with neurotransmitter function.

Introduction:

Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers present inside the synaptic vesicle of the terminal branch of the neurons. They are used to maintain communication between two neurons. The animals have many types of neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, serotonin, glutamate, and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters involved in many functions like voluntary movement, regulation of blood pressure, memory.

Explanation

Pediatric neurotransmitter disease is a group of genetic disorders related to synthesis, metabolism, and catabolism of neurotransmitters in children. One of the examples of this type of diseases is tyrosine hydroxylase deficiency.

The tyrosine hydroxylase is an enzyme that is involved in the biosynthesis of a group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamine from amino acid tyrosine. The neurotransmitters like dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine are together known as catecholamine.
