The Earth has majorly six pressure belts, which include two polar highs (one each on both hemispheres), two subpolar lows (one each on both hemispheres), two subtropical highs (one each on both hemispheres), and an equatorial low where intertropical convergence takes place.

Since wind blows from high pressure to low pressure regions, it is important to know about the convergence and divergence inorder to understand the global wind patterns. Based on this, a global wind system model is developed as shown in the accompanying figure (Figure 4.11.of the chapter).

Generally, the air in the vicinity of low pressure region is warm, and hence rises while the dense cold air from high pressure region moves in to replace the risen air. Now, on examining the figure, the equator is marked by the convergence of Northeast trade winds and Southeast trade winds...
