Explanation of Solution

a) Na2O

Sodium oxide (Na2O) is an ionic compound of two metal atoms (sodium) and one non-metal atom (oxygen). “Na” acts as the cation and “O” acts as the anion. The electron transfers between the cations and anion result in the formation of an ionic bond between the atoms.

Therefore, the compound contains two sodium atoms and one oxygen atom.

b) CF2Cl2

The compound dichlorodifluoromethane (CF2Cl2) contains three different types of atoms bonded together. It is a Freon, used as a refrigerant, and contains one carbon, two fluorine, and two chlorine atoms bonded together.

Therefore, the compound contains one carbon atom, two fluorine atoms, and two chlorine atoms
