Introduction: Heartburn is a common problem in many pregnant women where they feel a burning sensation in their chest usually accompanied by chest pain, cough, and asthma-like symptoms. It is caused as a result of acid reflux in the stomach irritating the esophagus. These symptoms can be relieved by taking appropriate prevention measures.

Heartburn occurs when the valve between the esophagus and the stomach are unable to prevent stomach acid from passing back into the esophagus. During pregnancy the progesterone hormone causes the valve to relax which allows stomach acid to pass into the esophagus and irritate the lining which causes heartburn...
