The direct mechanical control for the pineal gland is done by the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus. The suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus releases the melatonin hormone, which regulates the biological clock.

Explanation

The pineal gland has some degree of photosensitivity. In mammals, it is not directly affected by light because it is located deep inside the brain.
