Textbook Problem

Distinguish among atria, ventricles, arteries, and veins.

Summary Introduction

To review:

The differentiation among atria, ventricle, artery, and veins.

Introduction:

The heart pumps blood to different parts of the body through four important components, namely, atria, ventricle, artery, and veins. The cells and the tissues of the body require a constant supply of oxygen to carry out the important metabolic reactions. The uptake of deoxygenated blood, from different parts of the body, is equally important. It occurs with the help of various components of the circulatory system.

Explanation

The difference among atrium, ventricle, arteries and, veins is given below:

Atrium Ventricle Arteries Veins
The heart has an upper chamber known as the atria which receives impure blood and transfers it to the ventricle. Left chamber of the heart has a small cavity known as the left ventricle. Ventricle receives blood from the arteries and sends it to the aorta. Aorta is a large artery present on the top of the left ventricle. Arteries carry blood back to the heart. These blood vessels carry impure or deoxygenated blood. Veins carry blood from the body tissues to the heart. These blood vessels carry oxygenated (pure) blood.
Right atrium performs the function of receiving impure blood from the veins. It provides oxygen to all body parts and gets carbon dioxide and other waste products from tissues. Left ventricle plays an important role in receiving pure blood that has been pumped within the left atria...
