Describe the electrical events that occur during the cardiac cyclein a mammalian heart.

Summary Introduction

To review:

The electrical events that occur during the cardiac cycle in a mammalian heart.

Introduction:

There are electrical signals generated by two nodes, namely the sinoatrial node (SA node) and the atrioventricular node (AV node). Electrodes can detect these electrical signals by being placed over different points on the body parts. The electrode signals change according to the electrical signals triggering the cardiac rhythm. A machine known as electrocardiogram records these signals.

Explanation

The electrical events that occur during the cardiac cycle in a mammalian heart are as follows:

Depolarization signal: The SA node presents in the upper part of the right atrium. It controls the rate and timing of the circadian rhythm. The SA node consists of specialized cardiac muscle cells known as pacemaker cells. The pacemaker cells generate a rhythmic depolarization signal, which passes over the heart. Depolarization signals initiate a wave of contractions, which cause the atria to contract simultaneously and fill the left ventricle with blood.

Contraction signal: AV node is a layer of connective tissues present between the atria and ventricle...
