When the somatic motor neuron delivers electrochemical impulses, it stimulates the contraction of muscle fibres; it makes the synapses through which muscles are contracted and relaxed. The maximum amplitude of a summated muscle contraction is caused due to the persistence of stimulus. When the stimulus persists for a long time, the amplitude of the muscle contraction also gets maximized. This is due to the stimulation of muscles by the electrical or natural stimulation of the neurons. Tetanus is one of the examples that has maximum amplitude during muscle contraction.
