Introduction:
The receptors that respond to mechanical stress by opening their cation channels when disturbed by the physical process are called mechanoreceptors. There are mainly four types of mechanoreceptors in the skin namely, Merkel’s discs, Meissner’s corpuscles, Ruffini endings, Pacinian corpuscles. All the four have different rates of adaptation or receptor sensitivity.
