Humans breathe through lungs, some of the aquatic animals respire with the help of gills, and some simple organisms respire through their skin. Breathing is a complex process that involves inspiration (inhaling the air into the lungs) and expiration (exhalation of air from the lungs).

Explanation

Breathing is controlled by medulla oblongata (which controls the primary respiration) and pons (which controls the breathing) present in the brain. The chemoreceptors present on the medulla senses the change in the concentration of the carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood. Increased carbon dioxide in the blood due to some physical exercises triggers the medulla receptors.
