Introduction:

The kidney is a specialized excretory organ. The function of the kidney is regulated by two mechanisms. It is either autoregulated entirely within the kidney or regulated by the hormonal control system. The two types of hormonal control system present in the kidney are: the RAAS (Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone system) and the ADH (Antidiuretic Hormone system).

Explanation

RAAS is an important hormonal control system that regulates sodium ions (Na+). At normal body salt concentration, the RAAS excret 10g of salt each day. The excessive amount of salt secretion drops the blood pressure and the volume of body fluid. The glomerular filtration falls below the levels that can be restored by juxtaglomerular cells of the kidney, then, the following events take place that is summarized in the flow diagram below.
