Question
Chapter 5, Problem 1CQ
To determine

Whether depressing the “accelerator” of a car is the only way to make the car accelerate.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Answer to Problem 1CQ

No. Application of breaks and making turns of the car also makes the car accelerates.

Explanation of Solution

The rate of change of velocity of an object is known as the acceleration. When there is a rate of change in the velocity in a car then the car is accelerating.

When the driver depresses the accelerator the car accelerates. If the break of the car is applied there will be a rate of change of velocity for the car. Thus, when the break is applied also the car accelerates. When car turns also makes the car accelerates by changing the vector velocity.
