Micrometer is an instrument which is used by engineers to measure precision (quality of something being accurate and exact). There are various steps to be taken care of while using a micrometer.

A micrometer is an instrument which is used by engineers to measure precision (quality of something being accurate and exact).

Use:

The spindle face moves towards the anvil face with each revolution of the ratchet. The object needs to be placed between the anvil face and spindle face for its measurement. When the object gets trapped between the spindle and anvil, the ratchet turns clockwise and it makes a clicking noise. This implies that the measurement can be taken as the ratchet cannot be tightened further. To lock lever, one can use thumb so that the reading does not get changed while one moves the micrometer away from the stem.

Care:

  1. Prevent the tool from dropping.
  2. Do not tighten the tool too tightly.
  3. Calibration should be checked on a weekly basis or more frequently.
  4. Clean it before the use.
  5. Measuring surface should not be touched.
