Question
Chapter 5, Problem 7SC
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Whether amolecule composed of two atoms with different electronegativities is polar or non-polaris to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
The existence of dipole forces between polar molecules depends upon the polarity of the molecules.
Polar molecules attract each other, whereas, non-polar molecules are not attracted by them.
Polar molecules do not mix with non-polar molecules.
Molecules which have one highly electronegative atom form permanent dipoles, which results in strong forces of attraction with similar molecules.
In some polyatomic molecules, the polar bonds cancel each other.
