Discuss Concepts Arguably, in sexually reproducing animals, development begins when eggs and sperm form in the parents. In a paragraph, explain the rationale for this idea.

The reasons for considering that development in sexually reproducing animals begins when eggs and sperms form in parents.

Sexual reproduction can be defined as the type of a life cycle in which the generations show alternation between the ploidy of the chromosomes. The alternation is seen in a haploid and diploid set of chromosomes. The cells become haploid during meiosis. It is a kind of cellular division process that produces four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes.

The production of haploid gametes by meiosis from precursor (diploid/haploid) cells is called gametogenesis. The gametes produced are sperm (male) and egg (female). The process of gametogenesis considered as the first step or phase of sexual reproduction or development of the organism. These gametes are responsible for forming the zygote on fertilization.
