Summary Introduction
To explain: The adaptive value of developing a placenta.
Introduction: The duration of pregnancy in humans is about 266 days on an average from the time of fertilization to the birth of the baby. The egg is fertilized in the oviduct and is converted into an embryo. The embryo gets implanted into the uterus on about seventh day of development. The organ of exchange between a mother and the embryo implanted in the uterus is known as the placenta.
