Why are conservation biologists especially concerned about the rapid rate of deforestation in the New World tropics?

Expert Solution
Summary Introduction

To review:

The reason due to which the conservation biologists are concerned about the rapid rate at which deforestation has been taking place in New world tropics.

Introduction:

Conservation biologists are the researchers who are concerned about the protection of the biodiversity, ecosystem, and habitats of the living organisms. They raise concerns about the status of organisms and find solutions in order to conserve a particular species. They have formulated measures to define a region as a biodiversity hotspot or the region of imminent extinction.

Explanation of Solution

Norman Myer identified 575 biodiversity hotspots. New researchers have noted 794 triggers species that are in danger. The conservation biologists have analyzed that the extinction rates in the mainland habitats have been increasing. Only 20% of the extinction occurred in the low-lying mainland areas. The data has also revealed a geographical shift in the extinctions in which about 21% of the species have become extinct in the New world tropics. It has been a major concern for the conservation biologists since, these tropics harbor habitats for several species...
