Baking soda is an example of acid anionic compound (HCO3-). Most of the chemical compounds exist as a polyatomic ion and the ratio of positive to negative ions present in the substance is expressed as formula of ionic compound. The formula of a chemical compound is given by the lowest whole number ratio of ions in the compound and it is called as a formula unit.
