To describe: The hydrogen bond.
Answer to Problem 1LC
The attraction between the positively charged hydrogen atom and negatively charged oxygen atom is termed as the hydrogen bond.
Explanation of Solution
A molecule is formed when two or more atoms are held together in a specific geometric arrangement. In a water molecule, there are two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The oxygen atom is characterized by a negative charge and the atoms of hydrogen are positively charged. They are held together by the covalent bonds and thereby the electrons are shared between the atoms. The electrostatic attraction between a bound and positively charged hydrogen atom to a negatively charged atom is termed as a hydrogen bond.
