Interpretation:

The difference between two pictures is to be explained on the basis of the brightness of the objects.

Concept Introduction:

The color of any substance depends on the color of the light absorbed by the molecules or atoms that compose the substance and the color that it reflects back.

Light has particle and wave properties; hence it has dual characteristics.

Wavelength of light determines its color and energy.

Electromagnetic radiation ranges in wavelength from the gamma waves region to the radio waves region.

In the visible region, the white light contains spectrum of wavelength ranging from 400 nm780 nm.

Infrared radiation has a wavelength longer than the visible light ranging from 700 nm1 mm.

Explanation of Solution

The color of an object is not contained within the object. It is the color of the light that is not absorbed and is reflected back by it. In any substance, when atoms or molecules absorb certain wavelength of light, they reflect the color which is not absorbed. When visible light strikes the object, a specific frequency of light is absorbed. This frequency of light is never detected by human eyes. Any visible light, when strikes an object and gets reflected back, is visible to human eyes...
