Concept introduction: Acidic sugars are the sugars in which carbonyl group or the alcoholic group is oxidised into carboxylic acid, whereas sugar alcohol is the sugar in which the aldehyde group is reduced to the alcohol.  Example of acidic sugar is gluconic acid and that of sugar alcohol is mannitol.
