Concept Introduction:

Organisms break down organic molecules in order to obtain energy from them, which is used to do work of the cell. Cellular respiration is a series of chemical reactions, which convert the chemical energy stored in the fuel molecules into adenosine triphosphate, $\text{ATP}$. This form of chemical energy can be readily used by cells for further metabolic activities.
