How is a CBN wheel trued and dressed?

To determine

The method for truing and dressing a CBN wheel.

Explanation of Solution

CBN grinding wheels are first trued to eliminate the run out using a brake truing device. A brake truing device contains a silicon carbide wheel that is mounted on the spindle with an automatic braking system. The procedures for truing are:

  • The brake truing device is mounted on a magnetic chuck and positioned beneath the super-abrasive wheel.
  • Then the grinding wheel head is lowered until both the wheels nearly touch each other. Start the grinder spindle and rotate the truing wheel by hand...
