Given:

Two children weighing 48 pound and 72 pounds are playing on a seesaw 10 feet long.

Lower weight W1<W2 Higher weight.

The figure shown below shows equilibrium at fulcrum, x feet from one end lower weight W1:

Formula used:

The moment about of the system M0 is

M0=m1x1+m2x2

Here masses are mx=1 and  m=9 and their position on x- axis, x1, x2

The total mass m of the system is

m=m1+m2

Center of mass of a linear system is,

x¯=M0m

Calculation:

To bring the beam in equilibrium, we have to find the center of mass of the system of two children and position the fulcrum at center of mass of the system.

Now, consider child weighing 48 pounds is sitting at position x1=0 and child of weighing 72 pounds is sitting at position x2=10 on the beam
