Answer to Problem 1CC

Solution:

Earth is not an exception of any of the properties discussed in the mentioned table.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

There are two classes of planets in our solar system namely terrestrial planets, which formed closer to Sun and Jovian planets, which formed away from the Sun.

Explanation:

The first and third properties discuss the size and composition of the terrestrial planets and their distance from the Sun compared to those of Jovian planets respectively. Earth is a terrestrial planet that formed close to the Sun. Thus, its core is made up of rocky materials, primarily of iron and nickel. Also, since at the distance of Earth’s orbit the hydrogen compounds couldn’t solidify, these compounds did not contribute in the formation of the core. Due to this reason, Earth has a comparatively smaller size than the other planets in the solar system and a rocky core.

The second property discusses the direction and orientation of the orbits of the planets. All the planets including Earth orbit the Sun in the same direction, and almost all the planets of our solar system lie in same plane. This is due to fact that they formed from the same protoplanaetary disk.

Conclusion:

Thus, Earth is not an exception of any of the properties discussed in the table.
