Summary Introduction

Introduction

Motivation is the condition in which an organism (for our purposes, a person) is induced or incentivized to perform a certain action. Basically, why did this person do this thing? The answers to these questions can generally be organized into three categories: needs, drives, and incentives. Needs can be either physiological (food, drink, etc.) or psychological (approval, achievement, etc.). Drives are born of our needs. When our bodies need fuel, we are driven to find and consume food. Incentives, on the other hand, are external. They are the rewards we may receive for completing certain tasks or achieving certain goals.
