Explanation of Solution

The three-mile island accident occurred due to excessive heating of reactors, because of loss of water from the reactor (loss of coolant). Due to excessive heat, the graphite reactor melted and produced radioactive gases that mixed with atmosphere and the amount of radiation released was insignificant compared to cosmic rays
