A roller coaster designer must carefully balance the desire for excitement and the need for safety. The most recent design is shown in Fig. 8.21. (a) If a 355-kg roller coaster car has zero velocity on the top of the first hill, determine its potential energy. (b) What is the velocity of the roller coaster car at the specified locations in the design? (c) Explain the relationship between velocity and the position on the track throughout the ride. (Consider the track to be friction less.)

Find the angle where the third order maxima occurs. 11. The drawing shows a light ray traveling from one medium into another. If the angle of incidence is 35°, determine the angle of refraction. n₂ = 1.4 i | "1₁ = 1.6arrow_forward

The banking angle is 40° and the radius of the turn is 200m. a) Draw a free-body diagram of the car b) Determine the maximum speed at which the car can safely negotiate the turn without sliding up the ramp.arrow_forward14. An astronaut is flying in a spaceship with a speed of 0.85 c with respect to Earth. The astronaut observes an event on Earth and determines that the time interval for the event to be completed is 31 hours. a) If the astronaut had a speed of 0.95 c with respect to Earth, what would she observe the time interval to be for that same event? b) Would the astronaut measure the proper time interval or the dilated time interval? Justify your response.arrow_forward
