What three join types are included in the outer join classification?

Program Plan Intro

Join:

Join is a relational operation, which combines the data from two or more tables into single table or view, then that is called as Join.

Outer join:

  • Outer join is the joining method in which that gets all rows with matching values in the join columns including unmatched rows.
  • Null values appear in columns where there is no match between tables.
  • Outer join keyword is used to return all rows from the left table and from the right table. This keyword combines the result of both LEFT and RIGHT joins.

Explanation of Solution

Use the below table as the example for joins:

Example:

Consider two tables “cseitstudent” and “placement”.

The Table creation and insertions are given below.

Creating tables:

CREATE TABLE cseitstudent(studentID INT PRIMARY KEY, sname VARCHAR(30), department VARCHAR(5), sem INT);

CREATE TABLE placement(PlacementID INT PRIMARY KEY,StudentID INT REFERENCES cseitstudent, department VARCHAR(5), Company VARCHAR(30), salary INT);

Inserting values:

INSERT INTO cseitstudent VALUES(101,'reema', 'IT',5);

INSERT INTO cseitstudent VALUES(102,'reenu', 'IT',3);

INSERT INTO cseitstudent VALUES(103,'sheela', 'CSE',3);

INSERT INTO placement VALUES(1, 101, 'IT', 'infosys', 25000);

INSERT INTO placement VALUES(2, 105, 'CSE', 'Wipro', 22000);

INSERT INTO placement VALUES(3, 204, 'MECH', 'HYUNDAI', 30000);

Classifications of outer join:

Outer join is classified into three. They are:

  • LEFT OUTER JOIN
  • RIGHT OUTER JOIN
  • FULL OUTER JOIN

LEFT OUTER JOIN:

It gets all rows with matching values in the join columns and all the unmatched rows from the “LEFT” table.

Query:

SELECT * FROM cseitstudent LEFT OUTER JOIN placement ON cseitstudent...
