Introduction

The human sex drive is fueled by sex hormones, most particularly by testosterone. Men have as much as ten times the testosterone levels of women, but women do also produce some testosterone in the ovaries and adrenal glands. During puberty, there is a strong surge of these hormones (testosterone and androgen in men and estrogen and progesterone in women) released into the body. This often results in what we see as the teenage preoccupation with sex.
