Two strategies that plants use to limit the formation and effects of reactive oxygen species.

Concept introduction:

Reactive oxygen species include chemically reactive species that contain oxygen, such as peroxides, hydroxyl radical, singlet oxygen, and superoxide. These are highly reactive species of oxygen. These are produced in plants when excess light energy is absorbed during photosynthesis. These can be formed by two ways. One is the direct transfer of energy from antenna chlorophyll to oxygen and the other is the transfer of electron, which forms O2 . These reactive oxygen species can cause substantial damage to the plant cell.
