Introduction:

The major areas, namely, central chemoreceptors and peripheral chemoreceptors, send impulses to the respiratory centers that activate specific ventilatory patterns. There are certain other factors apart from these major areas that affect the breathing—Hering-Breuer inflation reflex, juxtapulmonary-capillary receptors, deflation reflex, and irritant reflex.
