A skill you need for writing net ionic equations successfully is the ability to identify the major species in an aqueous solution. For each solute formula (in aqueous solution) written below, (a) classify it as a strong electrolyte, a weak electrolyte, or a nonelectrolyte: (b) identify the major species in solution; and (c) identify the minor species in solution (if any). The first two rows are completed as examples. Answers appear at the end of the chapter.

Introductory Chemistry: An Active Learning Approach
- Many over-the-counter antacid tablets are now formulated using calcium carbonate as die active ingredient, which enables such tablets to also be used as dietary calcium supplements.
