Chapter 9, Problem 1CA
Summary Introduction

Introduction: The nervous system of the human body is divided into the central nervous system (CNS), enteric nervous system (ENS), and peripheral nervous system (PNS). The nervous system is the complex system in the human body that stimulates, receives, coordinates, and transmits signals and sensory information to different parts of the body.

Answer to Problem 1CA

The general function of neurons is to transfer information, whereas the general function of the neuroglia is to support cells for neurons.

Explanation of Solution

The neurons are the basic fundamental units of the nervous system and also known as nerve cells. Just like all the cells in the human body, the neurons are also similar but the key factor that separates the neurons from all the cells in the body is the neurons ability to transmit information among the neural cells. The neuroglia cells are the supporting cells of the neuron and found in CNS and PNS. The neuroglia cell can form a protective myelin sheath over the neuron cells and also forms a tight junction to form the blood-brain barrier.
