Air standard assumptions are the simpler approximations considered in a process to make its analysis easier.

Few of the air standard assumptions which are employed in actual gas cycles are as follows:

  1. 1. All the processes which occur in a cycle are to be considered internally reversible.
  2. 2. The working fluid is considered as air which is actually an ideal gas and circulates in a closed loop.
  3. 3. The process of combustion can be replaced with the consideration of heat addition using an external source.
  4. 4. The process of exhaust can be replaced with the consideration of heat rejection which restores the initial states of working fluid.
