Explanation of Solution

The main classifications of building stone are as follows:

Igneous stone–this rock type is settled in a molten state. Granite is an extremely hard igneous stone that can be polished. It is nonporous, hard, durable, strong, and nearly permanent of building stones. It is classified into fine, medium, and coarse as per their grain. The quarrying of stone is mainly done by drilling and blasting process.

Sedimentary stone–It is a weakest rock and deposited by water or wind. Limestone is an example for sedimentary stone. It is soft and even–grained, but it is unable to polish. It is easy to work when saturated with water but it can also freeze, classified by its natural flaws.

Blue stone is highly stratified and strong and is useful for construction of paving and walls. These stones are quarried with saws using diamond blades.

Metamorphic stone–Marble falls under this stone type and it a metamorphosed limestone. It is either igneous or sedimentary rock changed by heat and pressure. This type of stone is harder and can be polished to mirror sheen.

Slate is form of clay and has numerous layers which make it easy to make sheets and it is good for paving, wall facings, and shingles. These stones are mainly classified by their natural flaws and workability and also quarried with saws using diamond blades.
