Question
Chapter 9, Problem 2PE
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The formulas of the ions present and the ratios in which they will occur in solutions of the following ionic compounds nickel
Concept introduction:
The ionic compounds are highly soluble in the water and dissociate into the water to give its ions. Thus, are good conductors of electricity and are classifieds as electrolytes. The molecular compounds are neutral and won’t dissociate into ions when dissolved in water. Very few of molecular compounds produce the ions when dissolved in the water.

Titration of a 20.0-mL sample of acid rain required 1.7 mL of 0.08 11 M NaOH to reach the end point. If we assume that the acidity of the rain is due to the presence of sulfuric acid, what was the concentration of sulfuric acid in this sample of rain?

The procedures and principles of qualitative analysis are coy cred in many introductory chemistry laboratory courses. In qualitative analysis, students learn to analyze mixtures of the common positive and negative ions, separating and confirming the presence of the particular ions in the mixture. One of the first steps in such an analysis is to treat the mixture with hydrochloric acid, which precipitates and removes silver ion, lead(II) ion, and mercury(I) ion from the aqueous mixture as the insoluble chloride salts. Write balanced net ionic equations for the precipitation reactions of these three cations with chloride ion.

Assuming that circles represent cations and squares represent anions, match the incomplete net ionic equations to their pictorial representations. (1) 2Na+ +SO42 (2) Mg2+ +2OH (3) Ba2+ +CO32

ssume a highly magnified view of a solution of HCI that allows you to “see” the HCl. Draw this magnified view. If you dropped in a piece of magnesium, the magnesium would disappear, and hydrogen gas would he released. Represent this change using symbols for the elements, and write the balanced equation.

Equal quantities of the hypothetical strong acid HX, weak acid HA, and weak base BZ are added to separate beakers of water, producing the solutions depicted in the drawings. In the drawings, the relative amounts of each substance present in the solution (neglecting the water) are shown. Identify the acid or base that was used to produce each of the solutions (HX, HA, or BZ).
