To determine

The plant succession and the way in which two types differ and the way in which the original theory of succession has been modified.

Explanation

The progressive sequence of different plant communities in natural vegetation over time is known as plant succession. The two major types of successions are primary and secondary.

The primary succession initiates with no soil or soil bed. A community invades the barren soil with less area initially. Later as they establish and grow their growth alters the surroundings and environmental conditions.

Due to these changes in the environment, the new plant species which couldn’t survive in the original conditions could survive here. Eventually the old plants can be replaced by the new plant species. This process of primary succession may take few hundred or even few thousands of years.

A natural disaster such as wildfire, landslide or tornado damages or destroys the existing vegetation completely. This leads to the secondary succession which is referred as a process of gap creation by ecologists. Some seeds which are lying dormant in the soil, sprouts and invade the newly opened gaps...
