To have this type of symmetry, a point can be drawn such that every point of the figure has a corresponding point directly opposite and at the same distance from the point as shown in figure below

Point symmetry can also be described as rotational symmetry of 180° i.e. if the figure appears unchanged after a rotation about a point by an angle of 180°.
