My biggest concerns as an ECE candidate are my language barrier and my cultural background. I think Korea is a very conservative country because it seems that there are only one standard of success, beauty, and etc. It has been continuously changed as the generation changes, but still, there is not enough understanding of diversity. Since there is one standard for each area, most people think different with others means something is wrong. There is a lack of understanding and acceptance of differences
different ways compared to mine. The main cultural influence that has been present in my life since day one is the closeness of my family. All my cousins are very close it has often odd when I hear about families with weak relationships and small size. Another influence that has shaped my behavior was my exposure of extreme poverty and extreme wealth while living in Mexico. Lastly, a cultural influence that has shaped my belief system is my education. A cultural influence that has really been eye opening
India The Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Culture Center characterizes culture as a "dynamic social framework," containing the qualities, convictions, practices, and standards of a particular gathering, association, society or other group that is found out, shared, and disguised by individuals from that society (Watson, 2010). Culture frames the premise of how individuals translate, comprehend, and react to everything around them. There are numerous meanings of culture utilized by the
“Unplugging” from the Internet isn’t about restoring the self so much as it about stifling the desire for autonomy that technology can inspire. (Jurgenson. N, 2013). All of us live in an increasing media- literate world. News are delivered by radio, print, television and on online media and people make constant opinions and suggestions about the same, which kind of has become a daily routine. I come from a country where there are two types of people; people who have accepted and live their lives
Originally fairy tales were used as warning for adults, hence the gruesome elements found in the original stories, but they have since evolved into tales that children of all ages can enjoy. Because of the deep history and ability to be related to, cultural importance has been put on these narratives. The social significance is implied through the numerous retelling of specific “classic” fairy tales and the hype around those classic characters. While these narratives have many important lessons that
Attitudes regarding mental illness vary among individuals, families, cultures and countries. Cultural beliefs often shape an individual’s belief about mental illness and form an individual’s attitude towards the mentally ill. Cultures differ in what they consider to be normal and abnormal, therefore mental illness interrelates with what kinds of help individuals will receive, who they will see to treat these disorders and whether or not members from a certain culture will seek help at all. As stated
The event I chose for my cultural event was the IWLC (Iowa Women Lead Change) Women’s Leadership Conference in Dubuque. For this event, IWLC invites women leaders from across the country to speak in front of local women from Iowa. IWLC is a nonprofit leadership organization for women located in downtown Cedar Rapids. There, they work to elevate the conversation of women leading in the workforce, the community, and at home. The part of the conference I attended was the student track, availably for

Valery Nix “Cultural Immersion” Throughout my UCIE meetings, I found that every culture and society is different in various ways. Saudi Arabia was the country I met most people from, therefore it is also the country I learned the most about. I talked to several students about their experiences while in America and the difference in the cultures. My partner came to the United States to study and earn a degree. Her country provided her with a scholarship to receive a degree in the United States and
I am from a Filipino family, but was raised in Guam, a very culturally and ethnically diverse island in the Western Pacific Ocean. Guam’s culture embraces the pluralist view of Michael Walzer 2004 that it is a place of diverse “ethnic, racial, and religious groups” (p. 635). Historically and culturally Guam has been exposed to many peoples from diverse backgrounds. But white people are usually referred to as “haole,” a Hawaiian term for a caucasian or non-native. There is definitely a culture that
