Hanging in the large glass windows of the store are colored posters of handsome men dressed from head to toe in the latest Structure fashions. Structure has adopted the Greek Ionic Column as part of it's building plan. Painted on the front windows of the store are small silhouette images of an idealized Greek temple. The Greek architectural elements that have been used to decorate and symbolize Structure, are in perfect condition. In fact, one could even go far enough to imagine that they were standing
It is known that in literature, a tragedy is one of the most popular genres. It always combines some story which discusses human sufferings with a certain sense of audience fulfillment. The roots of the tragedy are related to ancient Greece. A Greek tragedy is a sad story, which represents a character with a tragic flaw leading to his downfall. In addition, in traditional tragedy, the main character falls from high authority and often it is predetermined by fate, while the audience experiences catharsis

An ancient Greek Philosopher as well as a Scientist named Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander the Great and a student of Plato. Aristotle defines tragedy as imitations of life consist of action with a serious lesson to convey and purges emotions into the audience which leads to catharsis of these emotions. “Oedipus Rex” written by Sophocles is an Athenian tragedy which practically fulfills the Aristotelian theory of a tragedy. Oedipus, the King of Thebes is a noble man with great personality
In the play The Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman is a very troubled and distraught character. He is an ordinary man with nothing to show for himself. This leads him to a constant internal battle. A tragedy, being defined as, “a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending concerning the downfall of the main character.” The Death of A Salesman can be thought of as a tragic play because the main character sets out to achieve something that will inevitably lead
A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective use of several elements evident in Shakespeare’s and Aristotle’s style of tragic writing. The plot progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp’s short story “Mermaids,” the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece from being classified
When America began the social culture was founded on morals based on the Christian religion. Women stayed home, men worked, and African Americans were enslaved. Therefore, when America’s constitution and political structure were designed it was based off that typical idea. Hence, why I have come to the conclusion
Every classical tragedy has the same attribute yet they’re all played differently. “Oedipus the King” was very straight forward while others like “Death of a sales man” is more complex. I believe that “Death of a Sales man” is a classical tragedy. I don’t just believe that because Willy Loman fits he model of a tragic protagonist but because the ending ends as a classical tragedy. Willy Loman is in fact a tragic protagonist. He was not literally high-born but he does hold power over his family

There has been much debate as to what change is, and is not. Ancient Greek Philosophers were not indifferent to this. The early Greek Philosophers tried to explain what our world is comprised of, whether it is monism (one true “stuff,” or reality), or pluralism (more than one reality, or “stuff”). They then proceeded to try to elaborate and explain how change and motion occur. Heraclitus’ conclusion can be summed up in a quote of his: “One cannot step into the same river twice.” Parmenides and Zeno
