A representation of Latino American culture in New York is the El Museo del Barrio. This museum has been upstanding for thirty years, depicting various forms of art. These arts come from many latino artist, who felt they were under represented in American museums. El Museo del Barrio was created to give these latino artists a space to promote and have their paintings and artworks idealized. The museum serves as a reminder of the discrimination against Latinos, as many Latino artists were ignored

I was quite excited to go to the Museo del Barrio because it was one of the museums in New York City that I have not been to. During this semester, my interest in the Nuyorican movement has grown. Community Arts Project During the summer of 2015, I was a camp counselor for my local YMCA. As one of the special trips for the children, El Museo Del Barrio was a destination that was new to both the campers and me. It wasn’t a museum they were familiar with, nor was it one of their traditional museum tours either. Located in East Harlem, our visit to El Museo Del Barrio began with a walking tour. Walking away from Central Park you leave the nicer streets and enter the more residential areas. At first

I actually did a similar activity before at the El Museo del Barrio with another museum education class. Our class was standing in front of a portrait, Puerto Rican Pieta, by Puerto Rican artist, David Antonio Cruz, and we were asked to write a poem on “What is tradition?” Without seeing other’s sentences, each

Spanish-Excursion Paper November 8, 2013 Excursion Paper My tour around El Museo Del Barrio in Harlem, New York was a very memorable visit and I got in touch with my Spanish ancestors. There was mix of positive and negative Spanish history but none the less a very knowledgeable trip. One part of Hispanic culture that I feel is at the top of importance is the reign of Fidel Castro. To live under his rule must of have been terrifying and a childhood testimony of it is a in depth view
