Why should Unionville and/or Sebewaing have Boys Scouts of America? This is a relevant question because when most people think about scouts all they can remember is the cute little boys in their uniforms running around having fun and going camping. What people don’t realize is that although boy scouts is related to Cub Scouts they are vastly different. Boy Scouts is a training program for boys that are 11-18 years old. They are trained in leadership, emergency preparedness, life saving skills
Growing up we’ve all experienced something in common, living a life through people's eyes . What I mean by living a life through people's eye is caring too much of other people’s opinion more than your own opinion. We listened to other people's opinion more than our own due to the fear of embarrassment of doing something incorrect getting a sense of feeling guilty and because the opinion of other people give us confidence that we are doing great. As children, we are easily fooled by our parents
It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very large cabin-like
When my parents took me home from the hospital. I was brought to a nice clean house with two dogs named Kona and Jasper. I was generally in my crib as an infant. My mom deliberately made noise when I was trying to sleep to try to prevent me from being a light sleeper such as vacuuming for no reason and getting the dogs to bark. My parents used a gardening table as my changing table (this has little relevance, I just thought it was funny). When I grew out of the infant stage I hated being in the

In elementary school, one of my favorite days in grade school would be when my mom came in for her oral hygiene lessons. Even though my mom could have easily demonstrated proper techniques on how to brush and floss teeth with a dental model for my classes, she knew how excited I would always get when she called on me to personally demonstrate. I would brush in confidence those tooth surfaces, at a 45 degree angle and with small circular strokes. Promptly in the lesson, I would put the toothbrush
my mom from elementary school is her showing just how compassionate she is. When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be in a Girl Scouts troop but there was none in my school. My mom became not only my troop leader, but ran three troops at the same time, so anyone at my elementary could be involved despite their age. These children coming into her Girl Scouts troops were complete strangers and she still opened our house to everyone and accommodated anyone who wanted to join. My mom’s compassion
all of the others. It would greatly influence my life and shape my thoughts to the way they are today. Reminiscing about the events of my past, my journey to the glamorous mountains of Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico to hike for a week is indisputably the greatest memory of my life so far. Our Boy Scout troop congregated at the Grimes South Sports Complex at way too early of a time on a Friday morning. Nobody felt tired, however, due to our excitement for the launch of our trek. We had been preparing
my thirteen plus years in the program, was to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Growing from a young immature child to a young adult that can effectively plan, execute, and fulfill the requirements of the rank of Eagle Scout. I will not lie, as there were many points in which I wanted to quit the program because it would be boring, and lose my interest. But over the years, I knew that I wanted to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, as it is a title that would be with me my entire life, as well as a
Cadette, girls can also earn one LiA award, which is Leadership in Action and complete council-designed leadership course training. Girls can also do more complex badges like woodworking. For example, a professional woodworker could come to a Girl Scout meeting and teach girls how to use the advanced machinery. The benefits of being a CSA are girls are able to do more interesting and fun badges like the Cadette Detective Badge; host special scouting events like a murder mystery dinner for younger
