After reading the article by George E. Lewis called “Improvised Music after 1950: Afrological and Eurological Perspectives” there are many things that I found interesting and a lot of things that surprised me that I didn’t know. Something that surprised me a lot was that there was a lot of controversy over improvisation and the nature of it. I didn’t realize that that was something that was even able to be controversial. Also I thought it was surprising that there was a 150 year gap that improvisation
Extra Credit Assignment The event I choose to attend was the Concert featuring Maestro Soler in Taylor Auditorium. The event started out with Professor Jones giving the audience an introduction to what type of music we will be hearing also a bit of background information about Maestro Soler. Soler is a classical/popular Latin American guitar player. He was born in Spain. He is known all around the world and has won many awards. He travels around the world to do concerts around mostly Europe, and
The University of Florida Wind symphony performed Persichetti Symphony for Band. Right from the start, as evident in the beginning notes, the tone quality and blend was exquisite. Harmonious notes reverberated from the instruments as the low base rounded out a full, dark sound. No instrument stuck out poorly with against the backdrop of the song because the intonation was impeccable. Articulations made sense and fit with the style, so overall the band’s quality was incredible. Additionally, each
Slide -2 Memory decline As part of the human age process, memory tends to decline. This is a problem we will all have to face sooner or later. Slide 3 Memory decline To counter these negative effects, people often resort to different practices. Among some of them it can be mentioned: self-help books, brain games, and nutritional supplements; however, there are no guarantees. Even worst, some of these practices can be harmful to some people. For instance, study reviews conducted by McDaniel and colleagues
Overall the performance was great. I’ve always loved the sound of guitars because my dad and uncle both play. I became entranced by the music it reminded me of my childhood. Like these were pieces id hear on my favorite shows like tom and jerry. I liked the recital overall because each person picked great pieces but all went together in a way like it had a theme that reminded me of Hispanic or Italian music. Even though, some of the performers messed up they still did well and played right through
lot more confident in my voice granted that I use to think that my voice was one of the most terrible things that I’ve ever had the unfortunate pleasure of hearing. Some challenges that I had to face along the way in the process of developing my musical theatre voice was getting the right pitch and articulation for the song
singer. During the show performance, Lauren has sung so many works by the local and the international women artist. The show was started with an introduction, welcome the guest and the bright women in the music by professor Carol Evans. However, the musical style of the cadenza was following the sequence of the music pattern.
The Sartell High School’s bands, choirs, and orchestra had their first concert of the year on October 16, 2017. I will be evaluating the wind ensemble’s performance of their two pieces. The first piece that the wind ensemble performed was “Alligator Alley”. This piece tells an interesting story because it is a program, but the story element was lost at times because the phrasing did not make sense. If the band would spend more time phrasing and connecting each part, the flow of the piece would
I attended a Senior Recital performed by Travis Hogue-Smith. This concert took place at Barry University’s chapel on March 28, 2017 at 7:30 PM. The instruments used in this concert are a clarinet, played by Travis Hogue-Smith, and a piano, play Dr. Beverly Coulter. Music from both Romantic and Classical genres were played in this concert. In Travis Hogue-Smith’s concert, there was one piece called Three Pieces for clarinet solo (1919), and was composed by Igor Stravinsky. There are 3 movements in
Billy Jean, written in 1983 by Michael Jackson, and is a song that is blends sounds of post-disco, rhythm and blues, funk, and dance-pop. Also it rose to #1 on the Billboard “Hot 100”, “Black Singles” charts and on the UK charts in 1983. This song is a simple verse chorus song and for the most part, the song is built over repeating bass lines and a simple four-chord progression. Also this song features a “pre-chorus”, which is a section that is no longer the verse but not yet the chorus. Also functions
